Workshop with CSIS
On Friday, August 15, 2025, KOMITMEN-UIII held a discussion with CSIS on how to conduct macroeconomic modeling to analyze the aspects and impacts of climate change.
It turns out that the diversity of models is not merely a matter of “different methods,” but arises because each model is designed to answer different questions. Data limitations make assumptions unavoidable, and this is where differences often emerge.
In fact, assumptions are not a problem as long as they can be explained and understood. Therefore, we need models that are open, transparent, and easy to test collaboratively. These differences actually present an opportunity for integration, leading to more comprehensive analysis.
Building a robust model is an essential foundation for Indonesia’s climate policy. Without it, major decisions regarding energy, carbon, and development will rely on interpretation, not evidence.
